Blog Title.

Phil's dad Neil made the comment while he was visiting that he finally understood what "A Bundle of Myrrh" was referring to after he made a visit to the John G. Neihardt Center here in town. Well I figured I owed a little explanation to the rest of my faithful followers who also may have wondered.
I first heard "a bundle of myrrh" when I watched a biography on John G. Neihardt at the museum here in Bancroft during the summer of 2007 while visiting Phil and praying he would ask me to marry him. A Bundle of Myrrh was the title of one of Niehardt's books, a book of "romantic" poetry which he published in 1907. I thought that was a very interesting and lovely phrase. I became further interested after hearing that this book of poetry was picked up in Paris by a young American woman who so liked what she read that she began to correspond with Neihardt through letters and within a year they were married never having met until shortly before their wedding. The title and their story stayed with me for certain "sentimental reasons".
When I got home and looked up "a bundle of myrrh" I found that it is originally from Song of Solomon in the Bible. From chapter 1 verse 13 "My beloved is unto me as a bundle of myrrh" I'll spare you the rest. I was intrigued by the comparison of one's "beloved" to myrrh. I had only known of myrrh as a burial spice, not very flattering I thought. I turned to wikipedia for some answers. I discovered that myrrh was once a very valuable material, "worth it's weight in gold". It was used in burials and in perfumes but also had a list of other uses I found to be much more fitting when referring to a beloved; as a healing salve, an antiseptic, an anointing oil.
The phrase became much more meaningful to me once I learned more about it. This in conjunction with Neihardt's poetry and the tie to Bancroft made A Bundle of Myrrh the perfect title of the blog I wanted to start so everyone at home could keep up with me and my beloved once we were married and living so so far away.

The girls are becoming best buds already. Lily shares everything with Clara. Even her sippy cup.
And her church bulletin. She's so nice. They are sisters after all!Lily is getting a little better at being gentile with Clara.
Sometimes that is.
Clara loves watching Lily do anything. She's sooo funny.

Clara is growing and changing right under my nose. I guess I'm so busy with other things that it really takes me by surprise when I suddenly see how chunky her legs have gotten or how playful she's getting!
In the fun saucer. Seems like just yesterday Lily was this little and drooling away in it!
Well, it pretty much was right? Sigh.
Look at those cute little feet dangling. I could probably go to jail for this couldn't I? Brenda, if you're out there I have to tell everyone about the dream I had where you turned me in to Child Protective Services for letting Lily play with straws (I don't think I ever told you about that one)! They took her away from me. So hopefully they won't find out that I put my babies in this thing when they're only 2 months old.The Lily Show.

Lily's getting a little better at this walking thing everyday!
And she loves yakking on the phone.
I've been teaching Lily some sign language. She's really gotten a hang of "more" especially when there's "more" ice cream to be had!

Our watermelon harvest exceeded our greatest hopes! We've really made up after the great watermelon tragedy of last summer. We got about 22 out this week and still have about 8 yet to be picked. The smaller one's weren't much to write home about, but the large ones were red, sweet and of course juicy! Thus the "writing home about" them.
Lily helped load them up in the back of our vehicle to make a few deliveries around town.
The "squashermelon"!
See! Yum!Silly Lily.

Where does this child come from? Oh yeah, she's Phil's.
Inspecting the pantry to let me know what we're out of.
Well, she's 13 1/2 months old and still no top teeth. I have to say it, she looks a little funny. She looks like a little girl, then she opens her mouth and she's 3 months old again.
Pigtails today.
And big girl jeans from Grandmere. So cute, but no scoot. She had a hard time getting around on her bottom in these and kept tugging on them, so alas, I took them off. They'll be better when she's a full time walker.
Aaaaa! Where'd my baby go??!!
